Corel feedback from our customers

The following feedback has come from our customers who have used and are familiar with verious versions of CorelDraw. Please note that we cannot guarantee that any of these suggestions will ensure you will experience trouble free printing when converting Corel files to PDF. We encourage you to carry out your own investigations, before you send Corel PDF files for printing.

We would also like to thank the contributors for their suggestions.

This might help for CorelDRAW user.

- Saves background to 300dpi bitmap or Tiff format CMYK (one image file).
- Curves/outlines all fonts.
This will avoid layout misalignment.

Then you will have only 2 layer - one background and one fonts.

Corel has many tools to create effect within the software. It advisable to treat these tools as a means of creating the desired effects such as:

Vignettes
Drop Shadows
Lense effects
Duotones
Fills

And other built in features.

All these features are a means of creating effects and can be quite complex. Often printing the file will indicate the complexity in the speed of printing and errors will often show even on a non postscript printer even when printed from a Corel generated PDF file.

It is therefore advisable to convert any of the above effect to a cmyk bitmap . It is not widely known that this has always been the intention when using the tools and filters.

Fonts converted to curves is also advisable. This is particularly advisable when using downloaded free fonts. These can behave in an unpredictable manner.

It is also possible to export the file to adobe illustrator to create the pdf. This can be more compitable

Doing the above will render the Corel file very user friendly.

...in addition to making all fonts curves and breaking apart transparencies and shadows and rendering them as bitmaps, I have found any vector shapes underneath a bitmap get rendered as a part of that bitmap in output, which can lower the quality of the reproduction of text etc., so I recommend where possible bringing all critical vector elements in front of bitmap elements prior to producing pdf docs from Corel.

Through trial and error and some Google advice I have found the settings you have mentioned give me very reliable results from a number of printers (offset and digital).  Sometimes file size can be a problem when outputting print ready pdfs from Corel, and I have resorted to using a small amount of jpeg compression on bitmap elements (instead of zip compression) with good results, but it always pays to double check files before sending.
